Rollercoaster

When I was growing up my family took a vacation every summer to Cincinnati to visit relatives.  There were many things I loved about our time with family. There were several annual adventures that I looked forward to with my cousins. One was attending a Cincinnati Red’s baseball game in Riverfront stadium and the other was spending the day at King’s Island amusement park. We brought our gloves in hopes of catching a fly ball at the Red’s game and we brought our bravest selves to the challenging Twin Racer Rollercoaster at King’s Island.

The Twin Racer was the biggest rollercoaster I had ever attempted. I can remember standing in line getting a nervous stomach just thinking about the first big hill and then all the ups, the downs and the curves that came with the wild ride.

It has been years since I have ridden the Twin Racer, or any other rollercoaster for that matter. However, this past year I feel as if I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions. I have a pit in my stomach thinking of the rollercoaster we have been riding as a country. We have been going up, down, sometimes wanting to scream, sometimes feeling like we have a grip only to be surprised by the next curve. Covid, Racism, Politics, Economy……How do we get off this ride?

Faith, Hope and Love. The greatest of these is love. It starts with loving God by loving ourselves and when we truly love ourselves it is then and only then that we can love others. This is much easier said than done! This week focus on loving yourself. Try it!!!
