All Abilities Advocates

All Abilities Advocates (AAA) is a group dedicated to advocating for inclusion and belonging at Prince of Peace. Current AAA members include POP disciples who are part of the neurodiversity/disabilities community, family members of people with disabilities, professionals in disability services, POP staff members, and others interested in fostering inclusion at POP. We are gathered around a vision of becoming more hospitable to people with disabilities of all ages and their family members. We recognize that to do this, we need to stop, listen, and learn together. Then we need to take action. We seek to identify and work toward ways to be more physically, intellectually, relationally, and spiritually welcoming and accessible as a POP community.

Some of our efforts to date:

  • Held (ongoing) conversations with people with disabilities and their family members about their experiences at POP or other churches, including what’s worked and not worked for them
  • Provided allergy friendly food options for the community room and family ministry events
  • Equipped bags in the worship spaces with sensory tools for all ages
  • Provided child and adult size noise-canceling headphones for use on our campus
  • Offered a series on Charting the Lifecourse to POP and the broader community
  • Created and equipped a rolling cart of sensory tools as a mobile Sensory Space

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:00-7:30 pm at POP. Please email us at [email protected] if you are interested to join us or would like to share your ideas.
