Prince of Peace Welcomes Russ Parrish as Director of Worship Arts

May 14, 2024 by Nina Sveinson

Dear Prince of Peace,

Over the past month, we have experienced significant changes in our worship arts team. I would personally like to thank you for your patience and continued support as we have been working to bring new engaging leaders to this ministry.

We are excited to announce that Russ Parrish has been hired as Director of Worship Arts at Prince of Peace. Russ, and his wife Katie, will be relocating from Nashville, Tennessee to make Minnesota and Prince of Peace their home once again.

You may be familiar with Russ as he previously served on the worship arts team at Prince of Peace from 2016 – 2019. More recently, Russ lead our congregation in worship during the first Artist in Residence weekend in January, as well as the community-wide prayer vigil held at Prince of Peace for Burnsville’s fallen heroes.

Russ will begin leading worship the weekend of June 1-2, which coincides with the start of outdoor worship. We are excited for him to bring his musical skills, knowledge, and passion to our congregation, and look forward to him joining forces with the new Director of Choral and Traditional Music to continue elevating the worship experience at Prince of Peace.

Please join us in welcoming Russ Parrish to Prince of Peace. You can learn more about his background and family below.

Peace,

Paul Dean
Lead Pastor

Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Russ has cultivated his calling through leading worship, crafting songs that resonate with the heart, and bringing innovative changes to worship services.

In his recent role as the Director of Music and Worship at Resurrection Lutheran Church from June 2019 to August 2023, Russ brought his expertise to the forefront by integrating modern technology to elevate the worship experience. He showcased his talent in music production by recording, editing, and arranging tracks, which proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic as he spearheaded the transition to online services. His flair for creativity was also evident in his graphic design work, enhancing both the stage and online presence of worship services.

Before his tenure at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Russ served as the Assistant Worship Leader at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church from May 2016 to June 2019. There, he significantly grew the music team in the student ministry, introduced original worship songs, and developed backing tracks that enriched the worship experience.

Russ is an award-winning Christian singer-songwriter, with notable achievements including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Gospel Category (2018) and the SongDoor International Songwriting Competition (2021). His discography reflects his journey and commitment to his faith with albums and singles like “You’re Here” (2023), “Skin & Bone” (2021), and “Together” (2020), among others.

A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Russ’s educational background complements his vast experience in church production and presentation, showcasing his proficiency with software such as Ableton, ProPresenter, and Logic. His skills extend beyond music to sermon writing, student leadership, and stage design, underscored by his exceptional leadership and team management abilities.

An Update From Pastor Paul Dean: April 24, 2024

April 24, 2024 by Nina Sveinson

Due to the number of staff transitions we have experienced over the past few months, I would like to provide an update on the progress we are making. While these transitions are never easy, I have complete trust that the Holy Spirit is moving Prince of Peace into its next chapter with hope, new energy, and purpose.

There are currently two active call committees at Prince of Peace for the purpose of calling two new pastors. One pastor, the Associate Pastor of Young Adult Ministry, will be focused on connecting with our younger generations (20’s-40’s). This is a much-needed area of emphasis. I don’t think God has given up on that generation, and we will meet that challenge. The second pastoral call will focus on spiritual formation and teaching as we rebuild community and our small group ministry.

In addition to the two pastoral positions mentioned above, we are currently working on hiring a new Director of Worship. We will provide updates as we reach the final stages of the process. We also recently posted a position for our Choral and Traditional Music Ministries. The position’s start date will be effective August 1, just in time to bring our choir and ensembles back from their summer break. Both leaders will be dynamic and engaging as we seek to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our community.

Our Spiritual Care Ministry is being shored up by the addition of a part-time retired senior pastor who has recently joined Prince of Peace. He has already been officiating funerals, hospital, and home visitations. His formal welcome will come the week of May 6. In addition, we will be adding another part-time Spiritual Care Pastor in the coming weeks.

Please check the Transition Blog for updates each week as we continue making progress in our hiring efforts.

We have major challenges in front of us, but with your continued support, I trust that the days ahead are bright for our church.

Peace!

Pastor Paul Dean

A Prayer for Our Congregation

April 16, 2024 by Nina Sveinson

Our lives are like quilts of intricate designs

With lovely patterns taking shape as the colors intertwine,

Some of the designs we create ourselves

By things we choose to do—-

Sometimes our loving God adds a special hue,

And though tomorrow’s pattern is not for us to see—-

We can trust God’s faithful, loving hand throughout eternity.

Join me as we unite in prayer and trust.

Use this prayer as your prayer or let it remind you to

pray in your own way.

~ Marilyn Tubbs

A special prayer for our congregation as we WAIT and HOPE!!!!

God of insight, wisdom, guidance and direction, our church, your church, is once again, in the process of letting go and being open to new beginnings. We feel sadness, anxiety, and loss mixed in with hopefulness for new opportunities and beginnings. Teach us to be diligent in prayer as we walk into our future. Fill our leaders and call committees with your gifts of patience and discernment. Grant us hearts that unite us in our search and a oneness as we move into the future. In the midst of our changes and transitions, hold us close and fill us with patience, unity and love. You have led us and richly blest us in the past, empower us to believe and trust that you hold our future with the same love and blessings. Loving God, give us hearts for our journey and faiths that sustain us.

For in your powerful name we pray, Amen.
