Summer Worship Series – Mission: Possible

 In Featured, News

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” Those are the words agent Jim Phelps heard each week on the old television show “Mission Impossible,” shortly before the audio tape he was listening to self-destructed! Each week agent Phelps was given a nearly impossible mission to complete, and every week he somehow found a way to accomplish it, thanks to the magic of television.

You and I have also been given a mission. It’s a mission found in the Bible (which will not self-destruct!). It’s a big, audacious mission, a mission that matters to the whole world. But it isn’t an impossible mission because it isn’t a mission that we do on our own. We’ve been empowered for this mission by the Holy Spirit. And here’s the mission in Jesus’ own words, “You will be my witnesses…to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

You see, God is at work in our world comforting the grieving, healing the broken-hearted, freeing people from bondage, giving hope to the hopeless. And our mission is to join God in that work, tell others about it and then invite them to join in. If the Church (that’s you and me) is going to thrive we need to know the mission, accept the mission, and do the mission!

That’s the goal of our summer-long series beginning June 1-2 & 5. We’re going to take a deep dive into the book of Acts each weekend and Wednesday evening. We’re going to see God at work and learn how to be witnesses from the first disciples. And along the way we’re going to hear God’s call to be a part of the unfolding story of God’s mission in the world. Join us for the journey, and bring a friend along.
