Phase 1 + Matching Grant Opportunity

One Church Transformation: Phase 1

The Phase 1 scope of our One Church Transformation has been unanimously and enthusiastically approved by the Board of Directors! This will support ministry for today and for generations to come as we move into God’s vision for Prince of Peace, providing flexible and efficient space as we welcome new members and minister to our community.

Work in Phase 1 will include a 23,000 square foot 2-story addition, a 4,500 square foot basement, and renovation of 16,200 square feet which includes the current child care area and Community Room. Total construction cost of this phase is $10,722,000. At the time of the Board vote, the resources for this scope of work were in place.

Phase 1 addition will provide:

  • Clear front door, welcoming entrance, and gathering area on the first floor
  • Exterior shell of a 300-seat first floor Chapel
  • Large capacity elevator for easy accessibility
  • CDLC Preschool and Family Ministry space
  • Commons area upstairs outside the Sanctuary with room for 400-450 people to gather
  • Commercial kitchen and a large coffee bar area
  • Basement for storage and a facilities workshop

Phase 1 renovation work will create:

  • Family Ministry and Admin offices on the first floor, along with small group meeting space
  • Pastoral, Worship & Admin offices on the second floor, and meeting space
  • Energy efficient mechanical & electrical systems

The Board strongly supported the construction of the exterior shell of a 300-seat first floor Chapel in Phase 1 at an additional cost of $1,035,000 if the financial resources could be found to close the gap. Since the Board’s vote we’ve received very generous gifts that reduced the gap to just $460,000 needed for construction of the exterior shell of the Chapel. Our Prince of Peace Foundation Board has now stepped up with $230,000 to provide a matching grant opportunity to close this gap.

Matching Grant Opportunity

The Prince of Peace Foundation has approved the largest grant in its history in order to play a significant role in accelerating the One Church Transformation project. The Foundation Board approved a matching grant of $230,000 towards construction of  the exterior Chapel shell as part of Phase I of the building project, allowing us to save over $100,000 in construction efficiencies. The funds were taken exclusively from earnings on prior contributions. Such a grant would not be possible without past participation from members of Prince of Peace.

The matching grant asks those who have yet to make a commitment to the One Church Campaign or those who wish to increase their initial pledge to answer the need for funding. This grant will double the dollar amount of all NEW commitments up to $230,000. You may make a 2-year pledge at popmn.org/onechurch or give online at popmn.org/give.

Along with this grant, the Foundation has created a new opportunity called the “Legacy Program.” It will include the ability to leave significant gifts without affecting current cash assets for individuals and families. This program will help the Foundation to continue to be a significant resource for Prince of Peace and the greater community. Details to come this fall.

Timeline

Excavation and demolition work at Door B, the southeast entrance, will begin early to mid-July. Structural work on the new addition will begin in September and will be enclosed by Nov-Dec. Phase 1 completion is anticipated in July 2019.

Thank you for your overwhelming support of this project that will bless generations to come!
