Navigating Parkinson's

 In Featured, In

On April 9, over 100 people from Prince of Peace and the surrounding community gathered in the community room for a free seminar entitled, “Navigating Life with Parkinson’s Disease.” This seminar was birthed from Steve, a POP disciple who was dealing with Parkinson’s disease in his life.  He asked Pastor Claire after worship if the church could start a Parkinson’s support group. Claire referred him to our parish nurse, Leu Killion, who then contacted Struthers Parkinson’s Center and discovered that April was Parkinson’s Awareness Month. This seminar was co-hosted by our Spiritual Care ministry and Struther’s and drew people from all over the south metro area. The speakers for the event were two leading local neurologists who have recently written a book for those living with Parkinson’s.

Leu Killion is now working on forming a Parkinson’s Support Group at POP (27 people signed up at the event). Steve’s original vision of starting a support group south of the river for people dealing with Parkinson’s has become a reality! Thanks be to God.
