Getting the Most Out of Life

 In Pastor Jeff's Blog

Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, store up your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy them, and thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is. – Matthew 6:19-21

I recently drove through a cemetery to do a committal service. Looking at the rows of grave markers the thought struck me, “You’re going to wind up here too.”

That’s not a new thought. I’ve dealt with death often enough to have wrestled with my own mortality. And yet, I always have the same reaction – a moment of panic. Not about death but about life. How will I get the most out of this life with the time I have left?

Because of the way I’m wired I immediately go to a list of things I want to do, places I want to visit, ways I still want to grow. But after taking a deep breath I’m reminded of this truth: getting the most out of life is all about what you put into it.

The love we share. The forgiveness we extend. The generosity we express. The time we invest. In the economy of God’s Kingdom it is in blessing others that we find ourselves most richly blessed. By enriching the lives of others we discover the true richness of life. That’s how we get the most out of life.

How will you enrich the lives of others today?
