All are welcome to join for a time of prayer for yourselves and others where we can release our needs to God as a community of faith. In James 5:13-14 it says “Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
There will be opportunities to pray with others, to pray silently in a quiet sacred space, and if desired, to be anointed with oil which is symbolic of new life and healing.
In his book, Prayer, Richard Foster writes, “In the ongoing work of the kingdom of God, nothing is more important than Intercessory Prayer. People today desperately need the help that we can give them. Marriages are being shattered. Children are being destroyed. Individuals are living lives of quiet desperation, without purpose or future. And we can make a difference…if we will learn to pray on their behalf.”
Henri Nouwen writes, “Prayer is leading every sorrow to the source of all healing; it is letting the warmth of Jesus’ love melt the cold anger of resentment; it is opening a space where joy replaces sadness, mercy supplants bitterness, love displaces fear, gentleness and care overcome hatred and indifference. But most of all, prayer is the way to become and remain part of Jesus’ mission to draw all people to the intimacy of God’s love.”
