Echo Park Elementary School Partnership

 In Featured

Prince of Peace has been partnering with Echo Park Elementary since 2011.

Like everything else, our physical support of Echo Park was put on hold when Covid hit. After the school building reopened as the spread of Covid slowed, we were asked to wait until school officials announced that we could be in the building in a way that protected our volunteers, teachers and school staff – but most of all the children.

Echo Park has one of the highest percentages of students receiving free and reduced lunches in the area. Leading into the pandemic, volunteers from Prince of Peace had provided 100s of hours each week in the classroom, at recess, and in the hallways – bringing smiles and support for both the students and teachers.

We are now ready to serve at Echo Park again.

The pandemic hit schools hard. Students have fallen behind. Families are hurting financially. Teachers are exhausted. You can not only help students learn the basics and hand out food, you can also let students, their teachers and their families know that they are not alone. You can be a source of hope.

Volunteers will be needed to listen to children read, practice basic math skills, greet students each morning, help teach games at recess, and deliver food in the school for families on Thursday afternoons. There is also a need for once-a-month food distribution. Your help is vital to the development and growth of these precious children.

Do you have an hour or two to give each week? Here’s how you can get involved.
