December Update: One Church Transformation

 In Featured, Land & Building

Our new addition is really taking shape! Structural steel is in place giving us a sense of the scope of our new space. This new area will house our preschool and family ministry, a large gathering space near the front door, a new community room and commercial kitchen on the second floor, along with conference rooms. The exterior shell of the new Chapel is also part of this first phase of construction. November construction included the start of framing of interior walls, and setting the second floor precast. In December we’ll see the roof steel in place and framing will begin on exterior walls. The new roof and replacement of the existing roof of the former community room/child care area are also scheduled for December completion. The Sanctuary windows are a great place to gather to view the work in progress. Once the new edition is enclosed, the Sanctuary windows will be covered by temporary walls to create a safe barrier from the interior work. So take advantage of the view for the next month of so, while you can see the progress with your own eyes!

Congregational Vote Results

On Wednesday, November 14 and at the weekend worship services of November 17-18 the congregation voted on the following proposal:

The Christian Life Center parcels (Parcel ID 02-64011-01-020 and Parcel ID 02-64011-01-030) include the Christian Life Center building and the parking lots to the east and west of the CLC building for a total of 11.12 acres of land. The congregation was asked to vote yes or no: To authorize the Board of Directors to market the Christian Life Center parcels and negotiate the lease or sale of the property.

Of the 691 ballots cast by members of Prince of Peace, 656 voted yes, 29 voted no, and 6 abstained. At the Board of Directors meeting on December 4, the Board voted on approval of the minutes of the special meeting and acceptance of the congregational vote.

Speaking of photos, we also received new architectural renderings of what the finished space will look like! We had large scale versions printed that can be found in the Worship Center, but they are also posted below for you to enjoy. The photos depict views of the entry area (gathering space right inside the main door), the grand staircase (connects the commons with the sanctuary and community room on the second level), and the new community room space. We can’t wait for the project to be completed so we can start enjoying the new space!
