August Update: One Church Transformation

 In Featured, Land & Building

August construction is focused on completing finishing work – door installations, painting, flooring and tiling. Curb and pavement work is being done around the new construction area and the construction fencing will be coming down soon. The computer network will be installed the third week of August, along with the installation of a new phone system. Please pray for the continued safety of our construction teams.

Moving Details

Our preschool staff is scheduled to move into their new space the week of August 19 and the rest of staff will move into new office space beginning August 26. Can you help us with the move? From Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29, we will have 3 shifts each day to accommodate for varying schedules. The shifts will be 9:00 am – noon, 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 5:00 – 8:00 pm for all four moving dates. Child care will be available during the evening shift Monday – Wednesday. We would love to fill up the Monday and Tuesday shifts first, but will take your help anytime!

No matter your abilities, we have a role for you! Sign up online or just show up! We need help in these areas:

  • Moving Teams – push carts of boxes and other items from the old office to the new
  • Heavy Lifting – help move larger furniture pieces and equipment
  • Furniture Disassembly/Reassembly – take apart desks and other big items; tools provided
  • Wayfinding/Door-Holding – we need a few people each shift to help direct traffic
  • Hospitality – serve and replenish treats and beverages for our moving teams
  • Cleaning – help us keep things clean as we go!
  • Tech Crew – all staff computers need to be moved and reassembled in the new space

Come join us and be a part of the first crew to walk through our new space! Grab your small group, friends, neighbors, family, and anyone else you know to sign up and help us move! Contact Amy Oestreich at aoestreich@popmn.org or 952-898-9393 with questions.

Construction Delay

There is a bit of a delay on the feature light box construction that will extend from the skylight to the base of the staircase in our main entry area and some other finishing work in that area. Due to the delay, we will have to wait to use the new front door, conference rooms, and Community Room until the work is complete, hopefully by the end of September. Most of our groups that meet onsite will continue to meet in the Christian Life Center until we can fully utilize our new space. We are working with our contractor to finalize the timeline and we can’t wait to celebrate a Grand Opening & Dedication as soon as possible this fall! Stay tuned for details.

Phase 1 of the One Church Transformation project includes renovation of over 16,000 square feet of current space, the addition of nearly 28,000 square feet to our Worship Center building, including the shell of the new Chapel, plus construction of a 4,500 square foot basement. Completion of this phase of construction will provide a clear, welcoming front door, greater opportunities for hospitality, and will allow all ministries, except for Mission Outpost to be under one roof. Phase 1 of construction also updated all of our mechanical and electrical systems for greater efficiency and replaced the roof on the renovated area. Thank you for your overwhelming generosity to make an investment for today and for generations to come!

The Chapel is as complete as it will be in this phase. Through the generosity of this congregation and a significant grant from our Foundation, we were able to construct the shell of the Chapel space as a part of this first phase of construction. Significant savings were realized by including this space. HVAC equipment has been installed, but vent work and electrical runs will not be complete in the Chapel until Phase 2. At that time we’ll complete the interior walls and flooring, and add the technology to make the Chapel a well-used multi-purpose space.

Phase 2 of construction includes completion of the Chapel, renovation of Fellowship Hall (former CDLC Preschool space) into a new Mission Outpost, reorienting and renovating the Sanctuary, and creation of music rehearsal rooms. Phase 2 will be much less costly than Phase 1. Timing will be dependent upon our ability to raise the needed funds, and the church calendar so that ministry continues as our renovation work is in process.

The proposed Phase 3 construction includes completion of the exterior landscaping, creation of a memorial garden/columbarium and repaving the parking lot. Because of the significant deterioration of our current main parking lot, we are looking at alternatives to have the repaving done yet this year or early spring 2020. At that time all of the parking lot lights would also be replaced. More information will be provided if we move the schedule ahead on a new parking lot and lighting.
