A Few of My Favorite Things

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness. – Zephaniah 3:17

Sometimes I use this blog to provoke deeper thought about faith and life.

Sometimes I use this blog to deconstruct old ideas that I believe no longer serve the mission of God so that new ways of thinking might birth new energy and engagement.

Sometimes I use this blog to comment on the news of the day from a biblical perspective.

Today is not one of those times. This blog post is completely frivolous!

I recently heard the song My Favorite Things as the networks did their annual due diligence of showing The Sound of Music in December. It got me wondering about a few of my favorite things, and yours, in 2018. So, here we go:

My favorite book in 2018: Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger. A great read about leadership “off the map”. Has me thinking a lot about the future of the Church and how leadership needs to change.

My favorite moment of 2018: Our family trip to Cancun back in April – me, Nancy, all three boys and one of their girlfriends. It was glorious, and so good to be all together.

My favorite restaurant experience in 2018: Eating Dim Sum at Mandarin Kitchen in Minneapolis. Dim Sum is like Chinese small plate brunch. It made me wish that my stomach was bigger so that I could eat more. Our whole family enjoyed this together.

My favorite surprise in 2018: Moving. Wasn’t on my radar, but we downsized and moved onto a lake. Working on the house together with Nancy, learning to fish, and waking up to the sunrise over water have been unexpected gifts.

My favorite accomplishment of 2018: Running 500 miles and biking 2000 miles. Boom!

OK, it’s your turn. Pick one category or pick them all and leave a comment, sharing your favorite things of 2018.

And just in case you forgot, one of God’s favorite things…is you. Not just this year, but always.

And just in case you now really need to hear the song…click here.
