Why I Give My Time

Why I serve… Matthew 25:29 begins to explain the way I feel. I have spent a lifetime developing my “talents” and I enjoy the opportunity to continue to develop them through my professional career and my daily living. I have always enjoyed the built environment, even as a young kid. As a professional architect I enjoy helping bring to reality what many people are envisioning within their own mind’s eye. My volunteerism on the City of Savage Planning Commission allows me to represent my neighbors to help build a great and livable city that we all can enjoy! Matt Johnson

As a mother of a toddler many years ago, it was a challenge to find ways to volunteer. One thing we could do together was deliver Meals On Wheels. Instead of just hearing that it was good to help others, David learned this lesson by doing. I still deliver Meals On Wheels today. I can’t think of a better way to be the hands and heart of Jesus than by delivering a warm meal to someone who might otherwise go without. Serving others is truly a blessing! – Mary Frampton

Somebody asked me and I was needed; not always in that order, but that pretty much describes most of my volunteer commitments. I’ve been a Girl Scout Leader for the past 3 years, easing the girls from log lodges to camping in a state park, helping them research and plan their own events, doing community service, serving together at Feed My Starving Children or Operation Christmas Child; seeing them lead as “caddies” at other Girl Scout camps. I did it; you can too! – Susan Jambor

I volunteer at Mission Outpost, working with great people helping those in need. It is especially important to me that we are helping families with children. My inspiration comes from my grandmother. When I was young I accompanied her to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was the organist. The people of Our Lady were very poor. The mothers treated me as one of their own and were so kind to me. I learned that color is no barrier to respect, dignity and love. My faith is in the people who do God’s work with the knowledge that God has faith in us all. – Bob Horvath
