'Tis the Season

For many of us, the sign that the Christmas season is at hand is the stress that usually arrives with it.

As Christians, we know that this season of Advent is a time to prepare ourselves – to fill ourselves with a spiritual joy that leads to the celebration of remembering the gift of God; the birth of the Christ child and the return of Christ.

We will celebrate that Christ is our hope; salvation manifested in human flesh and we would be lost without him. The time of Advent reminds us it is a time to contemplate continually during these weeks in prayer remembering the reason for the birth of God’s son.

The Advent Wreath helps us to remember, and spiritually prepare:

  1. Candle of hope which comes from God
  2. Candle of preparation reminding us to get ready
  3. Candle of joy his birth brought through the message of the angles
  4. Candle of love – God sent His son because He loves us
  5. Christ candle – the Lamb of God: “his birth was for his death; his death was for our birth”

We look back on Christ’s birth in celebration while we also look forward in anticipation to the coming of His kingdom.  As we focus on the past and future we realize we are living in the “between times” where we are called to be faithful stewards of all that God has provided to us. We are reminded to “love the Lord with all our heart and love our neighbors as ourselves.”

Lord: You are our blessing; our hope; our salvation and you love us. Come Lord Jesus!
