Parents Serving as Small Group Leaders
My name is Alicia and I have two children involved with Children’s Ministry at Prince of Peace.
For years my husband and I hadn’t been to church on a regular basis, but always knew that having children would bring us back into the church community. When our oldest son was three, we decided to begin leading his preschool group and it was SUCH a great experience! The following year we decided we would lead BOTH our son’s and daughter’s groups and once again felt the year far exceeded our expectations.
When we began this journey, we weren’t quite sure how the curriculum would be presented or what would happen when we were out of town or if we got sick, but it has all worked out SO smoothly. We are now on our third year of leading and neither of us plans on stopping anytime soon.
The leader guides are set up in such a user friendly way. The format stays the same each week so it is easy to follow without much preparation. The materials are provided for you and there is always the ability to add any extra activities you might feel inclined to try. It is truly a special experience, to not only spend that time with our own children, but we also love sharing that time with the other children in the group each week. The total weekly commitment is 60-90 minutes and the calendar works well with our family schedule.*
I would encourage any parent to serve with Children’s Ministry at Prince of Peace! Co-leading a small group is a GREAT way to have more flexibility. If you can’t lead on a particular day the other parents are very helpful in stepping in to sub.
We have formed special relationships with many of the families and it’s exciting to walk through the halls and visit with people who only a short time ago we had never even met.
