Minnesota FoodShare Generosity

Every March we are given the opportunity to participate in Minnesota FoodShare. The Minnesota Food Share March Campaign is the only statewide effort where every dollar donated goes directly to food shelves to purchase food for the hunger program. The March Campaign raises more than half the food distributed annually at 300 food shelves statewide.

Thanks to the generous heart of the Prince of Peace community, we collected 72,000 pounds of food/toiletries and $34,234 in financial contributions. At the end of the donation period, we tally up all of the pounds of donated food/toiletries and financial donation and send that information to Minnesota FoodShare. Financial contributions that are sent directly to Minnesota FoodShare are divided between all participating food shelves based on their total collections. Last year we collected 71,834 pounds of food/toiletries and $1251 in financial contributions. We received a check from MN FoodShare for $5687.92. We look forward to seeing what God will bless us with this year.

We could not have received this wonderful blessing without all our partners in the Prince of Peace and greater Burnsville community. Many of you brought food to worship and made use of the blue donation bins in the Worship Center. WOW families and Casa de Dios filled the bins in the Family room and our Korean Church partner, Bethel Outpost, used the bin in the chapel. We received great support from area grocery stores and businesses. Many local schools and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops scheduled their food drives during March to maximize their donations and help us serve our neighbors.

We are called to serve our neighbors in need. And our neighbors need us. The Twin Cities metro area has one of the fastest growth rates of suburban poverty in the United States. The number of people living in poverty in the suburban Twin cities grew 128% from 2000 to 2011, greatly outpacing the national average increase in both inner city and suburban areas.

Thank you for all you continue to do to support this ministry. You have blessed us which allows us to bless our community.
