March is MN FoodShare Month

Foodshare Outpostby Pat Jarvi

Every month our focus in Mission Outpost is about food and getting it to the families that we serve. March, however, is just a little bit different. A giant effort is on throughout our community to raise pounds and dollars to enhance our on-going efforts here in our food shelf.

Last year during the month of March we collected 71,878 pounds of food and toiletries. As a result, we received a check from MN FoodShare for $5,982.79.

If you have ever considered donating food, toiletry items or money, this is the time! Although we are thrilled with whatever we receive, we would like to set a goal this year to bring in 80,000 pounds of food and toiletries.

There are two ways that you can help with this drive:

  1. MN FoodShare matches pounds and dollars donated, based on overall donations. This includes food, as well as non-food items (toiletries, etc.). Donate food and toiletries in March and place in the blue donation bins near the building entrances.
  2. Any dollars that are donated specifically to “Mission Outpost” will be tracked for us to be able to count towards the matching funds. Place checks in the offering bags with “Mission Outpost” in the memo line.

Thank you in advance for all that will be donated. We appreciate your support in this effort to help in our food shelf. As we continue to serve more and more families each month, this drive is very important.
