Families Serving Together
by the Ackland family
The “Prince of Peace Family Mission Trip” brought us to Louisville, Kentucky in August. We had been searching for an affordable family mission trip experience, and this intergenerational YouthWorks program was a perfect fit. It laid the foundation of serving for generations to come!
Thirty-six people from our congregation served in a variety of ways throughout the week. We were serving meals at soup kitchens, helping out at summer day programs for area youth, setting up apartments for veterans and refugees, landscaping and cleaning facilities, assisting elders in senior programs, and teaching English to refugees who are new to our country.
These serving opportunities moved us in many ways. It made us feel blessed for what we have, as well as empathy for those less fortunate. Serving as a family put the mission of Prince of Peace into action. We connected OUT for the World by serving in a community other than our own. We look forward to future opportunities to serve together
